Lanai to Join Maui Friday Town Parties with 5th Friday

WAILUKU, Maui, Hawai`i— The Mayor’s Office of Economic Development (OED) announced today that Lanai City has joined the Maui Friday Town Parties (MFTP) marketing program and will be hosting a Fifth Friday Town Party this week on Friday, Jan. 30th from 5:30-8:30 p.m. around Dole Park. Event cards are available in advance for $5, or for a cost of $10 at the event and may be purchased at any participating business after January 20. The event is open to the public and is geared for all ages.

Event-goers who purchase an event card can enjoy offerings, discounts and prizes from Lanai businesses. Local and Neighbor Island performers will be playing at various locations throughout the event, and food vendors will be cooking around the town.

Participating businesses include Mike Carroll Gallery, Cory Labang Studio, Canoes Lanai, Blue Ginger, Island Treasures, Lanai City Grille, Mimi’s Salon & Spa, The Local Gentry, The Lanai Art Center, Anuenue Juice Bar, Pele’s Other Garden, Island Images Salon, Fusion Food Truck, Hawaii Western Adventures, Pine Isle Market, Religious Experience Salsa, Carmen’s Mexican Food, and Richard’s Market.

This event is the first time the Lanai party will be marketed through the OED umbrella marketing

Campaign. The parties were initiated by the Lanai Chamber of Commerce; which has already successfully produced two Fifth Friday events. Lanai has chosen a burnt orange color for their MFTP logo, and the brand will now be used in all of their marketing materials.

“Fifth Friday Lanai was created by the Lanai Chamber of Commerce to provide attendees the opportunity to get to know local businesses and encourage a continued sense of community,” says Brad Bunn, Lanai Chamber of Commerce Chairman. “We invite everyone to join us as we celebrate the unique and cherished way of life on Lanai.”

Barbara Lucas, owner of Pele’s Other Garden, said that “as a long-standing resident and small business owner on Lanai, I can’t express how grateful I am to the Chamber. Fifth Friday Lanai is an example of how the Chamber is dedicated to the success of businesses like mine by providing opportunities and avenues to promote our businesses.”

The Maui Friday Town Parties program is a Mayor’s Office of Economic Development initiative and each participating town is supported with grant and marketing funding from OED.

“Lanai is undergoing many changes with their hotels under renovation, so their business community needs our support,” said Teena Rasmussen, Director of the mayor’s Office of Economic Development. “We were thrilled that the Lanai Chamber of Commerce has stepped up to bring this opportunity to their business members. I urge everyone to consider traveling to Lanai for a day during this next year.

“In the future, if there is enough demand,” Rasmussen continued, “we are hoping that Expeditions Ferry will consider running a late ferry trip back to Maui, so that Maui residents can enjoy Fifth Friday on Lanai.”

Maui Friday Town Parties are held each month in Wailuku- 1st Friday, Lahaina- 2nd Friday, Makawao- 3rd Friday, Kihei- 4th Friday and Lanai City- 5th Friday. Details on the activities in each town are available online at www.mauifridays.com.
